Project Overview
The AgriHub in Loudima, Republic of Congo, is a flagship biofuel production facility developed by Zerock as part of ENI’s circular economy initiative.
Designed to process oil from seeds such as castor, soybean, and sunflower, the hub aligns with Congo’s sustainable agriculture and energy goals. This innovative project features modular, scalable technology, enabling global replication. Operating 24/7, it houses advanced infrastructure for seed storage, extraction, and oil collection.
With two processing lines handling five tons per hour each, the plant exemplifies high-efficiency, green industry development. Zerock delivered the project under a full EPIC framework, demonstrating its leadership in sustainable construction and reinforcing its role in building a greener, more resilient future.
Scope of work
Zerock’s role in the AgriHub project encompassed Engineering, Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning (EPIC), as well as startup operations.
The scope included detailed engineering based on client-supplied BEDP, procurement and international logistics from over ten countries, and multidisciplinary construction activities.
Key facilities constructed included a 1 km paved access road, a dedicated helipad, and a 31.5 kV MV power line. Internally, the plant comprises silos, oil extraction lines, storage tanks, piping networks, structural steel platforms, and extensive mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation installations.
Pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance testing were also completed under Zerock’s supervision. External works included fencing, drainage, landscaping, parking, and other site infrastructure.
Challenges
Executing the AgriHub in a remote location required overcoming numerous logistical and operational obstacles. Equipment and materials were sourced from over ten countries, demanding complex international procurement coordination, shipping, and customs clearance.
Strict safety compliance posed another challenge, especially during critical operations like heavy lifts and commissioning activities. Zerock mitigated risks through over 300 targeted training sessions, 9,000 toolbox talks, and the issuance of 2,000 work permits.
The project also required careful synchronization of civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to meet tight schedules. Despite the remote terrain and advanced technology involved, Zerock achieved seamless integration of systems while maintaining a zero-LTI record through over 700,000 safe work hours.
Impact
The AgriHub stands as a transformative model for sustainable industrial development in Congo. By facilitating the local processing of castor and other seeds into biofuel feedstock, the project supports energy diversification and agricultural productivity.
It also promotes environmental stewardship by reusing processing byproducts as soil conditioners. Zerock’s successful delivery strengthens Congo’s industrial base while contributing to the global bio-economy.
The project has created local employment opportunities, boosted technical skills through rigorous training programs, and fostered a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. As a modular and expandable design, AgriHub offers a blueprint for future biofuel hubs, cementing Zerock’s role as a catalyst for green innovation
