Project Overview

The Old Aba Road Reconstruction Project in Port Harcourt, Rivers State was a major urban infrastructure initiative executed by Zerock Construction Nigeria Ltd.

The project involved complete rehabilitation and upgrading of the existing road to modern standards, addressing years of deterioration caused by heavy traffic, flooding, and poor drainage. The reconstruction aimed to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and boost economic activities along this vital corridor.

The project was commissioned to:
Improve connectivity between Port Harcourt city and Aba commercial hub
Resolve chronic flooding and traffic congestion issues
Enhance safety for daily road users
Stimulate economic growth in the region

Scope of work

Civil Works

Complete road demolition and removal of existing pavement

Excavation and earthworks to establish proper road alignment and gradients

Construction of reinforced concrete drainage systems (side drains, culverts, deep concrete underground and interceptors)

Sub-base and base course preparation using laterite and crushed stone aggregates

Asphalt concrete paving with 50mm wearing course and 60mm binder course

Bridge Construction

Transforming the existing old structurally- deficient bridge to a median landscaped area.

New 2 bridges with 25m single-span including:

Reinforced concrete abutments

Reinforced concrete beams and deck

Concrete parapet walls

Approach roads with transition zones from each side

Road Furniture & Utilities

Installation of road markings and traffic signs

Construction of pedestrian walkways and kerbs

Installation of street lighting systems

Relocation and protection of existing utilities (water lines, Electrical cables, telecom cables)
